About Us

Our Story

I started The Canine Hub in 2022, after working in the dog industry in varying capacities for almost 11 years, I decided it was time to make it my “official” career. I have worked in daycares, shelters, leading pack hikes and helping run day-school along with running my own in house boarding for 4 years; both in Vancouver and in Victoria, and now in Armstrong. My focus has been on training specifically for the past 18 months. Shadowing various trainers, both R+ and balanced to fully round out my knowledge as best as I can. My focus is on helping people create lifelong, healthy and happy relationships with their dogs, through channeling and embracing a dogs natural instincts.

My experience from working with my own, as well as clients’ dogs over the years has been that there is no “one method fix all” when it comes to training and a dogs natural make-up will always be the preset to anything you want to accomplish. I always want to help people work with their dog to find the solution that works best for you. Training does not look the same for everybody, and that is the beauty of it!

My husband, Kyle and I have built up this business together since moving to Armstrong and we are so grateful to get to work together in this industry.

…

Our Family - Myself and Kyle both live on property with our daughter Ivy, as well as Kyle’s parents who live in the secondary residence on site. Our dogs - Whiskey, Shelby, Rally, Hermes and our Livestock Guardian Dogs Chief and Rhea, along with our 2 cats - Lyla and Knox all also enjoy life on the farm!

The Canine Hub is Licensed, Insured, and Pet First Aid Certified.

Looking forward to working with you!

Where we are

The Canine Hub is situated just outside the cozy town of Armstrong, BC on a large private property with access to fields, a forest and a creek. This allows our boarding client dogs to have plenty of exercise and stimulation while staying with us, and it allows our training clients to have a private and secure location to learn and practice! We also run a small homestead on site, ask us about taking home some fresh duck or chicken eggs, or saying hello to the goats!

What we offer

Meet Our Team!

Chantel Holmes

Alexis Dennison

Alexis Dennison

Hi, I’m Chantel and if there’s one thing you should know about me is, I’ve loved dogs for as long as I can remember, they’ve always been a huge part of my life.

I share my days with my two dogs, Scout, a smart and energetic Border Collie Maremma, and Tucker, my sweet Golden Retriever, who keep me on my toes and remind me why I love this work so much.

I’m currently on maternity leave soaking up time with my son, Weston, but I can’t wait to get back to doing what I love: being a pack leader, spending my days outdoors, caring for your dogs, and giving them the exercise, attention, and love they deserve.

Alexis Dennison

Hi, I’m Alexis, and here’s a bit about me!

I grew up on a farm in Falkland, where animals were simply part of everyday life. Being surrounded by them from the time I was a kid into adulthood made working with animals feel natural and honestly, what I was always meant to do.

I spend as much of my free time as possible outdoors, exploring trails, staying active, and soaking up everything nature has to offer. Being outside feels like home to me, and it’s even better when I’m sharing those moments with dogs. I’m lucky to have my own built-in adventure buddy, Luca, who’s always by my side and up for anything… especially pack hikes!

As a Pack Hiker, I truly love what I do. Getting to combine my passion for animals with my love of the outdoors allows me to create safe, positive, and enriching experiences where dogs can explore, build confidence, and just be dogs, while being cared for and advocated for every step of the way.

Serena Gavel

Hi, I’m Serena and for as long as I can remember, I’ve loved animals. I’ve explored many avenues of work and have learned that moving my body, being outside, and having the opportunity to learn and grow is where I thrive; add multiple dogs to that and I’m in heaven. Plus it’s the only way you could get me in a minivan.

When I’m not carpooling and hiking your furry loved ones, I’m carpooling my own two children to sports and play dates. My weekends are spent with family and friends, and our two dogs: Spud, an allergic to life French bulldog and our newest love Tuna, an olde English bulldog, who has exactly 2 speeds, sit on your lap for cuddles and love, or bull in China shop.

I love to read, snuggle on the couch with loved ones and watch a movie, drink wine, dominate charades, get the girls trip out of the group chat, and generally just have a great time. Thank you for trusting me with your fur babies!  I have absolutely enjoyed getting to know everyone.

Andrea Mann

Hi, I'm Andrea! I grew up in the Okanagan with a lifelong love for animals, especially horses. While dogs weren’t always part of my childhood due to travel, cats were constant companions and animals were always at the center of my world. That passion led me to Olds College in Alberta, where I graduated with a degree in Equine Science, and finally welcomed my first horse and dog shortly after. In 2016, I moved back home to BC and now live in Armstrong with my husband, our three Bernese Mountain Dogs: Rex, Remy, and Reggie.

Outside of my work at the Canine Hub, I stay busy running my Rusty Spur stores, coaching volleyball, playing softball, and spending time with family at Kalamalka Lake.

I absolutely love working with the dogs at the Canine Hub and am especially excited to continue learning and getting involved in dock diving and other dog sports. Being active, outdoors, and surrounded by animals is where I’m happiest!
